M.I.A. has been working on some new music and says her album is slated for an April release, but she blames her label for her absence. Apparently the label wasn’t all too happy with the music she was making, saying that it was “too positive”, they wanted her to darken up her sound. The album will be named Mathangi, which is her real name, it also the name of the Hindu goddess of wisdom. Hit the jump for more.

“It’s like ‘We just built you up as the public enemy No. 1 and now you’re coming out with all this positive stuff.’ I’m taking my time to decide what they mean,” but her album will release in accordance with the Tamil New Year. She also added, “My manager who I fired is now the head of Interscope so that’s also an interesting thing for me – revisiting people in different hats.”
