Samsung has been some what dependent on Android for some time. This past fiscal year they claimed $6 billion in profit just from their Android business alone, far surpassing the competitors. Samsung announcing the release of their native OS, Tizen, will slowly build them more stable on their own without the help of Google’s Android OS.

Executives from Intel, Samsung, NTT DoCoMo Inc. and Vodafone formed Tizen Association last year as a contribution to the open-source software community. Together, their goal is mainly to build stability without reliance on Google. Recently Google acquired Motorola which may lead to successful partnerships, leaving Samsung in the dust. Rather than wait around to see what happens, the South Korean company has taken the initiative and paved their own way.
