Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced that the NYC regional council has been awarded $51 million in round two of the State’s Regional Economic Development Councils competition. The regional councils were put in place to redo New York state’s approach of economic development. The money will be used to created jobs and support economic growth. The $51.4 million has been awarded for a total of 50 projects across NY city. Read more details below.

$5 million will be dedicated to transforming the former Brooklyn Navy Yards Hospital into a new Media Campus for Steiner Studios.
$1.5 million will go to the New York Genome Center (11 major academic, medical, philanthropic, technological and pharmaceutical institutions) that will bring large-scale genomic analyses in conjunction with translational research, bioinformatics capability, and data mining.
$1.25 million will go to the Macro Sea, Inc. which will establish a high-tech design and prototyping at Brooklyn Navy Yard called “New Lab.”
$902,000 will go to Gotham Greens to create a high-tech, climate-controlled rooftop greenhouse in Jamaica, Queens.
$500,000 will go to the New York City Wetlands Mitigation Bank to help waterfront development and restoration of targeted wetlands in the New York harbor.
$400,000 will go to the Oak Point Property to build a warehouse, distribution and food processing facility that will help locally grown and organic produce/farm products from New York State growers.
