Everyone has had something to say about Avery Johnson being fired as the Brooklyn Nets head coach. Well today after the decision was announced a press conference was held in which Billy King and Johnson himself spoke. Read more after the jump.
Moke Hamilton a reporter for SNYtv attended the presser and tweeted out a couple of the quotes.
Billy King:
“The remaining staff will stay (with P.J.) and we’ll go from there.”
Billy King also said he has no plans to talk to other coaches at this time.
It isn’t often that a fired coach speaks at a press conference and Avery Johnson had some pretty interesting things to say.
“This is ownership’s decision. Fair or unfair, it doesn’t matter. It’s time for a new voice…”
“Maybe ownership thought since he went 11-4 in the first month that we would go 11-4 every month…”
“Maybe the players weren’t happy with the direction we were going… Maybe they decided collectively they wanted a change”
Avery’s system, rotations and decision making were very questionable but honestly I think the firing was a bit hasty. The expectations for this team were way higher than they should have been and a new coach won’t improve much.
