No secret that it’s pretty evident that Sandy brings a bad taste in peoples’ mouthes. Parents will stay away from naming their children anything associated with destruction or death. In 2012, with the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary plus the destruction of Hurricane Sandy – it looks like it could be a long time till we see a child named Sandy, especially in the area.

For example, the name, “Katrina,” was listed as the 281st most popular baby name for girls. The year after the hurricane it dropped to 379th and even plunging low in 2010, it dropped to 865.

With “Sandy,” the name hasn’t really been popular since the 60s, then it didn’t even make the list of top 1,000 baby names since ’05. ‘Sandra’ ranked somewhat higher, but still a not extremely popular – with only 614 last year. Looks like it might be 0 next year.

It might be a good idea to avoid the name Sandy for a while.
