Kendrick Lamar stops by BET’s “Don’t Sleep,” and he talks about his album going gold. “At least 80% of my sales are due to word-of-mouth.” He then talks about the perception people get of him, when they hear that he’s from COMPTON. He’s not the gang member, thug, hoodlum everyone assumes. “I had the best of both worlds. I’ve seen the streets, but I also still had the aspect of being a dreamer.” Kendrick had both parents in his home and his father was there for him to stop him and teach him to stay away from the negative.
