71 years ago today, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor killing 2,390 service members and 49 civilians. Many gathered today not only in Pearl Harbor, but other places to remember those who passed and 50 survivors who survived the attack. The Japanese surprised attack on December 1, 1941 happened at about 7:55 a.m. and launched the United States into World War II. The USS Michael Murphy, which was named after a Pearl Harbor based soldier who was killed in Afghanistan, sailed pasted the wreckage of USS Arizona as crew members and sounded their whistle at 7:55 a.m.
RIP to all the lives that were lost that day, we continue to try to keep their memory alive by remembering their lives and death on the anniversary of the horrific attacks.
