A 10 year old girl, Sophia Bailey Klug with 2 dads, asked Obama if ‘kids at school teased you about it, what would you do?…And Obama actually wrote back..in only a week!.. Check out below to see what he wrote back!
“Dear Barack Obama,” she said. “It’s Sophia Bailey Klugh your friend who invited you to dinner. You don’t remember okay that’s fine. But I just wanted to tell you that I am so glad you agree that two men can love each other because I have two dads and they love each other.”
She went on to ask for his advice about how to respond to kids at school who think her fathers’ relationship is “gross and weird.” “If you were me and you had two dads that loved each other, and kids at school teased you about it, what would you do?” She concluded by saying that she hopes Obama “win(s) on being the President” and asking him to say hello to his two daughters. She also drew a photo of her two fathers kissing with the word “love” between them.
In his response, Obama said Americans “recognize that whether you have two dads or one mom what matters above all is the love we show one another.” He also suggested that Sophia remind her friends about the Golden Rule, saying everyone should “treat others the way you hope they will treat you.”
“You are very fortunate to have two parents who care deeply for you,” he said. “They are lucky to have such an exceptional daughter in you.”
The President even made sure to conclude his letter by saying, “I’m sorry I couldn’t make it to dinner, but I’ll be sure to tell Sasha and Malia you say hello,”… I swear our President is the best!..
