There is a crane about to fall onto the streets of midtown Manhattan. The winds were strong enough to knock the crane over. Now, the crane is hanging over the city. Hopefully no one is near the area and if it does fall no one gets hurt. Click below to find out more.
Hurricane Sandy blew over a rooftop crane, leaving it dangling over W. 57th St. and terrifying passersby who feared it would come crashing to the ground.
Firefighters were called to the site of the One57 tower, slated to be the city’s tallest residential building, as the crane swayed from the 70th floor.
Police blocked off nearby streets and several buildings between Sixth and Seventh Aves. were evacuated.
Food vendor Tony Twitty saw the crane snap.
“The crane was waving in the wind,” said Twitty, 40, of The Bronx. “The next started to break up. You could hear the crunching of metal.”
Twitty was alarmed by the sound.
