Governor Cuomo has announced that he will be suspending all MTA services tonight. All rail services will be closed by 7 p.m. and all bus services will be suspended by 9 p.m. in preparation for Hurricane Sandy. New York City has already announced that it will be setting up shelter in 65 public schools for people living in low-lying areas, some people have been urged to evacuate, The New York City Police Department is also mobilizing, and schools will be closed on Monday. According to MTA Chairman and CEO Joe Lhota, mass transit will remain suspended until 12 hours until the end of the storm, which is likely to be sometime Wednesday.
The storm is expected to make landfall south of the city, but Mayor Michael Bloomberg is warning residents to remain alert because the storm could be dangerous.
