The acquisition of Lamar Odom seemed like a steal for the Los Angeles Clippers if he could return to Sixth Man of the Year Odom and let go of his funk he had with the Dallas Mavericks. Odom however showed up extremely out of shape and with the bruised bone he suffered in the Clippers game against the Heat in China, he may not be ready for the season opener. Odom himself told the Los Angeles Times he may not be ready to go in the opener.
“I don’t know,” Odom said Thursday after sitting out the Clippers’ final preseason game. “I want to. But I’ve got to be a mature Lamar and realize what this team is really trying to do….
“So, however my body responds the next five or six days, then that will be my guide,” Odom said. “I’ve got to take this body on a test run in practice, take it for a couple of turns around the corner to see how I feel…. I know myself. I can go out there with adrenaline and play well and then be saying ‘ouch’ the next day.”
Odom provides the Clippers with size and frontcourt depth that they need behind Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan. Without him it’ll be difficult for them to compete against the Memphis Grizzlies big front line. Their second game is against the Lakers who’s front line is also huge. Lamar Odom will have to get in tip top shape.
