An off-duty officer has been shot, a suspect killed and the hunt is underway for two additional suspects in The Bronx. When his girlfriend pointed out a robbery in progress the officer sprung into action. He was subsequently shot in the chest but is in stable condition at Bronx Lebanon Hospital. The off-duty officer witnessed an alleged robbery in progress. Three people were reportedly robbing one person. The officer approached the group and when he got close, he was shot in the chest by one of the three suspects. There was an exchange of gunfire and the suspects fled.
The officer got into his vehicle, drove for a block and saw the suspects again. Whether he was trying to find them or get to a hospital is not clear at this time. There was another exchange of gunfire there. One of the suspects was shot in this exchange and has since died.
There are two suspects still being sought.
