Local authorities were alerted to the crash at around 4am on Friday morning after an unknown caller phoned to report a possible brush fire in the area.
‘Unfortunately, when our police officers arrived on the scene,’ explained Mr Gordon, ‘they discovered the fire was actually caused by a single-vehicle crash. They found a red Ferrari that was on fire approximately 60 yards into a wood line.’
Mr Gordon told MailOnline: ‘Both passengers were in shock of course.’
Though the exact cause of the horrific accident has yet to be determined and investigators are considering whether alcohol was to blame, speed is certain to have contributed to the crash.
Mr Gordon lamented: ‘We remind people – speed, speed. You got to watch your speed when traveling on the roadways of our state. High rates of speed take people’s lives.’
Readers on multiple news sites have pointed to the driver’s parents as the responsible party for giving such young men control of such a remarkably fast car.
Mr Gordon did confirm that police have been in touch with Mr Panducherry’s parents and suspect the car belonged to them. However because any identifying serial numbers have been burned they cannot be sure.
Harshavardhan Patlolla’s Facebook page reveals that he is a student at Clayton State University who befriended Mr Panducherry on the social networking site in February.
The younger of the two, Mr Panducherry, who goes by the name Akshay Pavan and regularly posts pictures of expensive sports cars, posted a picture of the red Ferrari on Tuesday.
