Looks like the lights are back on for ‘Lights Out!’

Less than two months after he was a surprise training camp release, the Buffalo Billshave re-signed veteran pass rusher Shawne Merriman, according to Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com. The team has since confirmed the move, while also disclosing that rookie center David Snow and defensive tackle Jay Ross have been released.

When the Bills released Merriman, 28, on August 20, the organization cited poor scheme fit as reasoning for the move. Yet here he is, back with the team two months later. In the time between his training camp release and re-joining the Bills today, Merriman has had one workout with another club that the public knows about: the San Francisco 49ers passed him up just prior to Week 3.

It seems unlikely at this point that the Bills will activate Merriman on Sundays. The team seems primed to move forward with Mario Williams, Chris Kelsay and Kyle Mooreworking in a three-man rotation at defensive end; prior to Anderson’s injury, Moore was inactive, and the team was still only using three pass-rushing ends on game days. As the team’s fourth defensive end, Merriman will also likely be inactive – unless one of the guys in front of him gets hurt and forces the team’s hand. Think of him as the Kirk Morrison of the defensive end position.
