A mother has revealed that she pays for her son’s heroin as it is easier for her to see him using drugs than withdrawing from them. The woman, identified as Hope by Nat Geo’s Drugged series, told the program that she wants her 21-year-old son Schuyler to get help for his addiction, but will support him in the meantime. ‘It much worse for me to see my son withdrawing from heroin than when he’s on it,’ she said – even though doctors predicted he has just six months to live if he does not kick the habit. The program follows Schuyler, who takes up to four hits a day, in the lead up to a doctor’s visit and a failed stint in rehab. His mother travels with him from their home in Phoenix, Arizona to Dallas, Texas to visit the specialist facility, and while there, Schuyler starts suffering withdrawals. ‘If someone were to offer to bring Schuyler some heroin up here, it would make our life a lot better,’ she tells the cameras.
