HTC and Apple are starting to slow up part orders from competitor Samsung. On HTC and Apple’s side its a good move business wise since Samsung is a strong competitor between both companies, but will the parts they order from new vendor AU Optronics will it compare to the Samsung parts.
HTC’s move comes after Apple initiated a new procurement strategy by reducing its reliance on Samsung for the supply of some key smartphone components for risk control, said the sources.
However, due to concerns of yield rates and production volume of AMOLED panels at AUO, HTC currently is still taking a portion of AMOLED panels from Samsung, the sources indicated.
HTC has been buying Super LCD panels for its mid-range and high-end smartphone models from Sony since the second half of 2010, the sources revealed.
