Every October, the NFL promotes breast cancer awareness by allowing the otherwise sacrosanct NFL uniform to be invaded by copious amounts of pink.
Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who lost his mother to the disease in 2003, has taken the tribute a step farther…
…by writing her name on each of his eye black strips.
A closeup of Fitzgerald in the first half showed “Carol” written in cursive under each eye.
The NFL usually prohibits the placement of messages on eye black. After Week One, no fine was imposed on Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis for similarly honoring deceased Ravens owner Art Modell.
It’s unlikely that the league will fine Fitzgerald. Even if the league does, it will be money well spent for a man who was far too young to have lost his mother.
