It turns out President Barack Obama was a tad concerned about the NFL’s replacement refs, even before the Green Bay Packers’ stunning loss to Seattle.

Last week, Obama had a telephone interview with Bill Willis, of WTAM-AM in Cleveland.

As the broadcast host and Obama were discussing the Cleveland Browns, the president said, “But one thing I got to say, though, is it just me or do we have to get our regular refs back?”

Obama added, “I can’t get involved in it, but I’m just expressing my point of view as a sports fan.”

Here is a transcript of the conversation, with Willis, as provided by the Obama campaign.

Q    Mr. President, an honor.  I hope you tell your staff, my producer, Scooter, and I — we had a good conversation.  Maybe when you’re in Cleveland longer, we can talk again.

THE PRESIDENT:  I look forward to it.  And your Browns looked a little better this weekend.

Q    Yes, they did, sir.

THE PRESIDENT:  But one thing I got to say, though, is it just me or do we have to get our regular refs back?

Q    Sir, can you give — I know you’re busy and I don’t want you to —

THE PRESIDENT:  I can’t get involved with it, but I’m just expressing my point of view as a sports fan.

Q    When they cost the Bears the game, then we’ll know.  (Laughter.)

Thank you, Mr. President.

THE PRESIDENT:  Thank you.  Bye-bye.
