So sad how a significant other can influence a mind so much, to the point where one loses their life. Amy Winehouse’s ex-husband was just recently fighting for his life in a coma after an alleged over dose. Blake Fielder-Civil, finally admits he is the reason why Amy Winehouse was on drugs. Find out the details after the jump.
Speaking for the first time following his recent release from intensive care, Blake revealed he was relieved to learn it was not an overdose which killed the talented singer.
A coroner ruled the singer’s death last year was the result of drinking too much alcohol and she was more than five times over the drink-drive limit.
He told The Sun: ‘I don’t know whether it absolves my guilt or responsibility. But it meant I didn’t kill my ex-wife.
‘I was the one who brought drugs into the relationship.
‘When the toxicology results came back I was relieved there were no drugs in her system.’
The recovering addict goes on to say that despite introducing Amy to hard drugs, he still believes her downward spiral was her own fault.
Blake continued: ‘It seems disrespectful to Amy to assume she was so impressionable she would take them without making the decision to do so herself. She was actually very strong and independent.’
The former music video assistant was in jail in Leeds when Amy passed away in July last year.
He was serving time on a 32-month sentence for burglary and possession of an imitation firearm and was unable to attend her funeral so he held a memorial for her in his cell.
Blake was released from prison just over a month ago after serving 12 months of his sentence.
Soon after he was fighting for his life following an overdose.
His mother Georgette Civil believes he was driven to the downfall after reading a text message from his late wife.
Georgette says: ‘Blake is aware that he is the most hated man on Earth. He knows people blame him for Amy’s death, and it’s too much for him to cope with.
‘Blake used to say to me: “My biggest crime was to fall in love with Amy. Why don’t people realise I loved her? Why am I the most hated man?”
‘I’m not making excuses for my son but Amy chose her own destiny, just as Blake chose his. They never stopped loving each other and after their divorce they met secretly. If Amy were alive today I know she would be at his bedside right now.’
At the time Amy’s father, Mitch Winehouse took to Twitter to urge fans to support him, he wrote: ‘Remember Amy loved him. Let’s pray for his recovery.’
Amy met Blake in a pub in 2005 and they married in Miami in 2007 just a month after becoming engaged, but divorced two years later.
Blake is currently in a relationship with 34-year-old Sarah Aspin, who he met in rehab three years ago.
The couple have 16-motn-year old son Jack together and she recently revealed she is pregnant with their second child.
