Earlier this week Kelsey Grammer was set to interview on “Piers Morgan Tonight.” Right before Kelsey was to step on stage, the show aired a picture of ex-wife Camille Grammer, the former playboy model and reality TV star. Kelsey promptly walked off set and out of the studio. Piers Morgan had no idea why Kelsey suddenly left until now. Click below the jump to find out why.
Piers Morgan seemed to be dumbfounded when Kelsey Grammer, his guest for Wednesday night’s episode of “Piers Morgan Tonight,” fled the studio moments before their interview. Now that the dust has settled, exactly why the TV star left may now becoming clear.
“He appears to have left the building … We’re not quite sure what’s going on. He was here,” Morgan told audiences on Wednesday. “He has exited stage left, so we’ve got half an hour left. He may or may not come back, I guess we’ll see.”
Grammer never did return, and Morgan soon turned to his Twitter account to express his confusion, tweeting, “Kelsey Grammer was supposed to be on my show now but ran out of the building. strange….”
So what sent the former “Frasier” and “Cheers” star looking for the nearest exit? Apparently it was a picture in the studio of his ex-wife Camille Grammer, the former Playboy model and reality TV star with whom he had a highly-publicized divorce after 13 years of marriage and bitter custody battle over their two children.
Later Morgan, who has been friendly with Grammer and has had him on his CNN talk show before, tweeted, “So, Kelsey Grammer saw a photo of his ex-wife Camille in the open to our show and legged it. Extraordinary. Never had this happen before.”
Later he wrote, “…This was a shockingly unprofessional thing to do. I wasn’t even going to mention his ex-wife!”
Sources close to Grammer tell the Hollywood Reporter that the real reason the “Boss” star fled the studio was because Morgan’s staff did not replace his ex-wife’s picture with one of his current wife Kayte Walsh, as Grammer had requested.
“Kelsey was upset …he felt that leaving Camille’s photo up there was an insult to his new wife Kayte,” Erin Carlson, Staff Editor at The Hollywood Reporter told ABC News.
Grammer’s publicist indicated to The Hollywood Reporter that the star’s exit from the interview was Morgan’s fault.
“Piers needs to take responsibility for what he did to Kelsey,” Stan Rosenfield said. “It’s called accountability.”
Grammer has in fact opened up about Camille, an ex-star of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” recently speaking in a candid interview with Oprah Winfrey and even talking to Morgan about their relationship.
When Morgan asked Grammer in an interview last year if he thinks that Camille married him because he is Kelsey Grammer, TV icon, Grammer said, “No …I think she married me because I was Frasier.”
Grammer has yet to comment publicly on Wednesday’s incident.
