The half-brother of the accused Central Park rapist says it isn’t David Mitchell who attacks older women – but his alter ego Johnny.
Joe Mitchell, 43, believes his sibling suffers from a split personality disorder and recounted a chilling encounter when he came face-to-face with “Johnny” for the first time.

“We fought down the driveway, he broke my back and hit me in the back with a brick,” he said. “That’s the first time I met him and the last time he came out to meet me … I ain’t met him since.”
“I guess y’all met him out there [in New York],” he added.
Joe Mitchell, who was 22 at the time, said he had to wear a back brace for six months after the violent brawl and his brother also walked away with a swollen face and broken ribs.
He believes it is this alter ego that approached a 73-year-old birdwalker in Central Park and brutally raped her — not “mellowed out” David.
“If she laughed at him or called him names, she set him off,” he said about his New York victim.
“I’m not saying it’s her fault. She didn’t know.”Joe Mitchell still lives in Jenkinjones, West Virginia, where the heavily-tattooed criminal grew up. He says he last spoke to his brother about three months ago when he was released from his latest stint behind bars.
The siblings both decided he shouldn’t return to his childhood home.
“People in this neighborhood want to kill him,” he said. “He’s too big and got too big of a reputation.”“Him being my brother, I know he needs help but if he gets out he’s just going to do it again…the rage is going to get worse.”
