On Tuesday, Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson will donate $50,000 to the Wounded Warriors Project.
Jackson will present a check to the project while he visits a group of “Wounded Warriors” at the Soldier Family Assist Center at Fort Dix Joint Base in the afternoon.
“The Wounded Warrior Project is a great organization and this is something that I feel very grateful and blessed to be able to do,” Jackson said in a statement released by the Eagles. “My cousin, Jimmy Jackson, was a Sergeant E5 and won two purple hearts and two bronze stars after serving in Vietnam. After seeing what he’s dealt with throughout his life, this is a cause that really hits home for me.
“The people in the military put their lives on the line for us every day. I think it’s important to recognize the great service they provide for this country, especially at this time of year. I’m excited to meet some of the soldiers and let them know how much I appreciate what they do. They are true heroes.”
The Wounded Warrior Project is an organization that provides aid to military members who suffered injuries or illnesses during their service on or after Sept. 11, 2001. Tuesday is, of course, the 11-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on American soil.
Jackson isn’t a newcomer to charity work. He is the creator of the DeSean Jackson Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer. Jackson’s father, Bill, died of pancreatic cancer in 2009.
Jackson has also been a part of a large anti-bullying campaign and has done community work in his Long Beach, Calif. home.
