If the Titans have any five-receiver sets in their playbook, they’ll need to rip out those pages for Week One.
The team that will host the Patriots has only four receivers on the roster: Nate Washington,Damian Williams, Lavelle Hawkins, and Kendall Wright.
“If we felt differently we would’ve done something about it,” coach Mike Munchak said, via Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. “We feel good about those guys. They have been consistent and they’ve stayed healthy. They are coming off the best years they’ve had, and they’ve had solid camps. So we are excited about them, and you add [the tight ends] to it and the running backs, we have guys who can make plays.
“We feel like we have plenty of weapons, where if we play right, we could be ready to play against anybody.”
The team’s top receiver, when he’s healthy, is Kenny Britt. But Britt has been suspended for the first week of the 2012 regular season.
As Munchak said, the team also has tight ends and running backs — including running back Darius Reynaud, who was a receiver in college and earlier in his NFL career.
Britt was expected to play only 10-15 snaps in Week One, if he hadn’t been suspended. It’s unknown how many more snaps he’ll be able to take in Week Two, when the Titans goes to San Diego.
