The Jets just completed a disastrous preseason where they went 0-4 and were outscored 88-31, but that’s not keepingRex Ryan down. The Jets coach remains as confident as ever in his team.  Read more after the jump.
“When it’s all said and done, I think this will be the best team I’ve had since I’ve been here,†Ryan said, according to Newsday’s Bob Glauber. “That’s how I feel about it.â€
Ryan has coached the Jets for three seasons. His teams have gone 9-7, 11-5, and 8-8, and they reached the AFC Championship Game twice. If these Jets are better than his previous teams, that implies they are a Super Bowl-quality team.
Ryan emphasized to Newsday how close the team is, and he thinks they’ll build on that. Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis sees a confident team, and he has no reason to worry about the team’s preseason struggles.
“It’s preseason,†Revis said. “We don’t have a lot going on game plan-wise. The games don’t mean anything.â€
While it’s true that preseason games don’t count and that teams hold back, struggling to score points as much as the Jets have is never a good sign. Call me a skeptic, but I don’t think they’ll just be able to just turn it on in the regular season. The defense is going to have to average shutouts for them to win.
