Brooklyn Butcher Levi Aron was given 40 years to life in prison Wednesday for killing and dismembering 8-year-old Leiby Kletzky – and will likely spend the rest of eternity in hell. Click below to find out more.
Wearing a black yarmulke and an orange jumpsuit, the admitted killer meekly said “no,” when asked if he had something to say in Brooklyn Supreme Court,
He has never publicly apologized for the gruesome 2011 slaying.
“He made a choice,” said prosecutor Julie Rendelman. “His choice that day was to take this beautiful boy’s life.”
Aron, 37, had plead guilty to second degree murder and kidnapping.
Leiby’s ultra-Orthodox parents, who did not want to relive their nightmare during a trial, had agreed to the plea deal. A letter from the boy’s father, Nachman Kletzky, was read aloud in court.
“A day doesn’t pass without thinking of Leiby, but today we close the door on this one aspect of our tragedy,” Kletzky wrote.
Little Leiby was snatched off a Borough Park street while walking back from camp alone for the first time. Aron kept him for over 33 hours, but panicked when he realized a frantic search for the boy was underway.
He admitted to drugging Leiby, smothering him with a towel, dismembering his body and throwing the remains in a dumpster. A severed foot was later found in the killer’s freezer.
In private, Aron was remorseful, defense lawyer Pierre Bazile said outside the courtroom.
“He’s sorry and he wished he hadn’t done it,” said Bazile.
