A former teacher is being held in a Missouri jail after confessing to two sexual assaults on his students, prosecutors say. Donald Ingerson, 67, believed the statute of limitations had run out, but Missouri removed the statute for rape in 2002. Click below to find out more.
He now faces charges of rape and second-degree statutory sodomy.
Ingerson’s teaching career spanned several St. Louis County school districts from the 1960s to the 1990s. He admittedly committed one of the assaults in the mid-1970s and the other in 1995 or 1996, according to Hazelwood Patch.
Police do not yet know if there are any other victims.
Ingerson called St. Louis County police in June from his home in Montana to confess to the crimes, County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch said Tuesday. He apparently believed he could not be charged.
After speaking with investigators Monday, he was arrested and ordered held on $300,000 bond.
