Autocar reports Porsche might have something special planned for the upcoming 918 Spyder: a Race Track package that strips unnecessary amenities in exchange for a lighter finished product. The report suggests the pack may even do away with paint in an effort to trim the hybrid supercar’s curb weight by as much as 66 pounds, and that up to 20 percent of buyers may opt for the purist version.
Of course, in typical Porsche style, the automaker plans to attach a healthy price premium to the track package, proving once again that if your brand is strong enough, you can con customers into actually paying more for less product.
The 918 Spyder will bow with a 4.6-liter V8 paired with two electric motors good for up to 762 horsepower while tipping the scales at under 3,800 lbs.
