In a surprising turn of events Danny Garcia defeated fan favorite Amir Khan by way of TKO in the 4th round. Â Garcia remains undefeated and adds another lightweight belt to his collection. Â Read more after the jump.
In the beginning Khan looked alert landing key punches to Garcia but that took a dramatic turn in the third round. Â Garcia delivered a blow that sent Khan to the ground. Â Though looking dazed Khan was able to beat the count and continue the fight. Â At the start of the fourth, though, Garcia swarmed him with power punches, knocking him down twice quickly. Â Khan returned to his feet but by the 2:28 mark of the fourth round the referee ended the fight. Â Khan looked visibly upset as he disagreed with the ref and felt like he could continue.
“I always knew I would win this fight,” Garcia said. “I needed a great fighter in front of me to show how great a fighter I am. Now everyone knows.”
“It wasn’t my night,” Khan said. “I was coming in with my hands down and Danny took advantage of that. He countered very well against me.”
Garcia now has the WBA title to go along with his WBC one. He improved his record to 24-0 with 15 knockouts while Khan fell to 26-3 with 18 KOs.
