According to sources the New York Knicks will not match the Houston Rockets offer to Jeremy Lin. Â Although they may lose out on Linsanity it could open the door for Chris Paul to New York. Â Read more after the jump.
Yesterday the Knicks completed a sign-and trade bringing Raymond Felton to the Knicks which many assume means they won’t bring back Jeremy Lin. Â According to the New York Post:
One NBA source insisted the Knicks, with Felton’s addition, will not match Lin’s new, ramped-up $25 million offer sheet from the Rockets. The Knicks will have three days to reconsider amid a potential backlash.
It was assumed that the Knicks would match any offer made to Jeremy Lin and my guess is it’s because of his off-the-court earning potential. Â Well apparently that no longer matters if the sources are correct and with good reason. Â In comes the possibility of once again trying to land elite point guard Chris Paul. Â Paul declined to sign a contract extension with the Los Angeles Clippers which means he will become a free agent next offseason. Â By not matching Lin’s offer the Knicks can possibly pick up Paul. Â Though it is rumored that Paul declined the contract extension because he can get a max contract from the Clippers as a free agent, that doesn’t mean there’s no chance he’ll leave. Â In my opinion Lin is not worth nearly the amount they’re offering him and although I do believe he’s a good point guard with a high basketball IQ and skills, I think he needs more development including the ability to go left. Â Chris Paul may or may not be a long shot but regardless of what happens I hope the Knicks finally make a smart move.
