What epic event happened with the Nintendo 3DS? Check out their recent milestone below.
The little console that could had a sketchy past and troubled beginning, but recent results from NPD Group have revealed that over 5 million units of the Nintendo 3DS have sold in the US alone.
The NPD Group are responsible for tracking video game sales in the US, and today announced that the Nintendo 3DS has surpassed 5 million units sold. 155,000 of those sales occurred in the month of June alone.
Nintendo are expecting the forward momentum to remain as the Nintendo 3DS XL launches next month, as does New Super Mario Bros. 2.
Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales and marketing has said, “Nintendo 3DS is entering the next phase of its life cycle with new hardware, new games and proven franchises. This milestone shows we’ve got a great foundation to build from.”
Nintendo have cited other milestones achieved in the month of June, including life to date totals of the three biggest 3DS titles. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D became the third Nintendo 3DS title to sell more than 1 million units, joining Super Mario 3D Land (2.1 million) and Mario Kart 7 (1.75 million)
Nintendo has maintained 75% of the market share for portable hardware in the US for the second month in a row, and more than 400,000 units of Nintendo hardware were sold in June.
