Team USA is already down several big men as it prepares for the 2012 London Olympics, and it could be down one more. Blake Griffin, the fantastic young star for the Los Angeles Clippers, hurt his knee in a scrimmage, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski. It is unclear how serious the injury is, but Anthony Davis, who had been one of the final players cut, has been called up in case Griffin cannot play.
Griffin was one of the final players called up to Team USA, making the squad after injuries knocked out 2008 standouts Dwight Howard and Chris Bosh. Griffin was expected to play behind Tyson Chandler and Kevin Love in a now-shallow big man rotation. If he cannot play, it appears Davis, a rookie with no international experience, may have to play a role in helping Team USA win the gold.
Team USA will scrimmage against the Dominican Republic on Thursday night in its first actual game.
