It became clear a long time ago that Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban gutted his championship roster in order to acquire big name free agents, most notably Deron Williams. Â The problem with that plan is that nothing is guaranteed and now the Mavericks are left with practically nothing except their superstar Dirk Nowitzki. Â His former teammate Tyson Chandler says he feels sorry for him. Â Read more after the jump.
The Mavericks lost Tyson Chandler to the Knicks last season as they hoped to clear up cap room and make way for Deron Williams or Dwight Howard. Â Unfortunately for them Howard waived his opt-out clause and Deron Williams decided to stay with the Brooklyn Nets. Â Now not only have they lost Chandler they also lost Jason Kidd to the Knicks and Jason Terry to the Boston Celtics. Â The whole 2011 Championship is practically blown up and dispersed and poor Dirk is left with no one.
“I am a little bit stunned, but I kind of felt like it was going to be that, honestly,†Chandler said, according to ESPN Dallas. “If they weren’t able to land Deron Williams or Dwight [Howard], I knew there would be trouble down the road. I feel sorry for Dirk; really for Dirk and the coaching staff. You go from winning a championship to kind of it seems like you’re almost in a rebuilding stage. Especially for Dirk at this point in his career, I really feel bad for him.â€
Dirk isn’t getting any younger and he’s left with a team in shambles. Â I suggest he pays Mark Cuban a visit really soon.
