Everyone has been talking about Ted. The movie about a bear that stars, well.. a bear, Mila Kunis & Mark Walhburg. The movie did huge numbers at the box office this weekend. Hit the jump to find out how much.
‘Ted’ beats ‘Magic Mike’ at the box office and shatters record! It was all about the raunch this weekend at the box office. “Ted” opened as the No. 1 movie with $54.1 million, outdoing “Magic Mike” and its stripper fare, though both films over-performed, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Mark Wahlberg and Seth MacFarlane comedy about a dirty talking teddy bear’s debut is the best showing ever for an original R-rated comedy. “Ted” shattered the original R-rated comedy box office record, previously set by “The Hangover” in 2009, as predicted after its impressive Friday performance.
“Magic Mike,” Steven Soderbergh’s buzz-about male striptease dramedy loosely based on star Channing Tatum’s life, grossed $39.2 million
Coming in No. 3 at the domestic box office behind “Ted” and “Magic Mike” was last week’s winner “Brave,” which fell 48.7 percent in its second weekend to $34 million.
Tyler Perry’s “Madea’s Witness Protection” also had a strong opening, bringing in $26.4 million, while the soft debut of the weekend was DreamWorks and Disney’s “People Like Us.” The movie, which was directed by Alex Kurtzman and stars Chris Pine, Olivia Wilde, Elizabeth Banks and Michelle Pfeiffer, opened with a mere $4.3 million.
