During Monday’s celebration of their NBA title Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade took a little jab at head coach Erik Spoelstra.
Reports The Palm Beach Post’s Ethan J. Skolnick: “The only thing (Spoelstra) used to be able to do when I first got here was the Christmas videos,” Wade said.
Spoelstra moved steadily through the Miami organization over the last 17 years, having joined the Heat in 1995 as a video coordinator. He was promoted to assistant coach/video coordinator two years later, and in 1999 was named assistant coach/advance scout. In 2001, he became the assistant coach/director of scouting. Following the 2007-08 season, Spoelstra was named Pat Riley’s successor as Miami’s head coach
Wade was drafted No. 5 overall in 2003 and in 2008-09, his first year with Spoelstra as head coach, the star guard was the NBA scoring champion, averaging 30.2 points per game.
The Heat clinched their second NBA title in seven seasons on Thursday, knocking off the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games.
