The mother of six and her children had parked in their Chevrolet Suburban in the driveway of a house for sale in Jacinto City.
After getting out of the vehicle she decided it needed to be moved closer to the house and instructed her daughter to get in the driver’s seat, the Houston Chronicle reported.
As the vehicle edged forward the mother told the girl to brake, however, the 12-year-old hit the accelerator instead, striking the woman.
“She fell to the concrete pavement. The back wheel ran over her,” Jacinto City Police chief Joe Ayala said.
The woman, whose name has not been released, died at the scene.
Although police were investigating, Ayala said the woman’s death appeared to be a tragic accident.
