On this most special anniversary, Timmie Jean Lindsey, an 80-year-old great-grandma who was the first recipient of breast implants, is reflecting on her fun bags.
She wasn’t even looking to up her bust back in 1962 when she ran into the surgeon who needed a guinea pig to test out his new boob bags.
She just wanted to have a chest tattoo of some roses removed when he said she’d be the perfect candidate for his new process.
She said:
“I had never heard the term ‘guinea pig’ back then. I just thought it was a privilege to have it done. It wasn’t a big deal to me. I went from a B to a C cup. But it made men more aware of me. More men would whistle at me.”
She’s been lucky. They never ruptured or leaked in all her years.
Though they did get a little calcified so they are a little stiff if she does certain pectoral exercises.
One of her granddaughters had to have a double mastectomy and a full reconstruction.
“It just looks so natural. They can build them up just like the real thing. I’m so proud that it’s available to so many women. It’s not vanity getting reconstruction. I think it’s necessary. It puts them back whole again. I’m so happy if Dr. Gerow’s silicone implants are what started it all.”
People forget, they’re not just about cosmetics, they can really build a woman back to normal should the worst happen.
