Anonymous has claimed responsibility for yesterday’s Facebook website outage which took the social network offline for several hours. The hacking group posted the claim on Twitter that it was behind the incident. Facebook has not denied the claim.

This was followed by ‘Oh yeah … RIP Facebook a new sound of tango down, b*tches.’

Shortly after the term ‘RIP Facebook’ was among the top ten trending topics both in the US and around the world.

In an email statement, Facebook commented. “Some users briefly experienced issues loading the site. The issues have since been resolved and everyone should now have access to Facebook. We apologize for any inconvenience.”

It’s been a bad month for Facebook, first with its IPO crashing and now with the site appearing to have its own set of problems. On a more positive front, Facebook’s stock was up $1.41% today to close at $29.60, but is still 23% below its IPO price. Shares are down in pre-market trading at 28.61‎ -0.99‎ (-3.34%‎)
