New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora doesn’t appreciate the way he’s being portrayed by the team during their contract negotiations, so he wrote a letter to the New York Daily News.

A day after Giants general manager Jerry Reese said the team has offered Umenyiora a contract extension for two seasons in a row, Umenyiora says Reese is trying to make him look like “a greedy pig” by lying.

Wrote Umenyiora on Sunday: “Last year I was offered incentives. This year they offered me in guaranteed money, HALF of what they just gave Kiwi guaranteed. HALF. I’m not making that up. Then Jerry tells the world they offered me an extension and I turned it down. And I look like a greedy pig for turning it down. Hilarious.”

‘Kiwi,’ or Giants linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka, received three days ago a three-year extension worth $21.75 million with $10.95 million guaranteed.

Umenyiora, 30, seeks an extension on the seven-year, $41.5 million deal he signed in 2005 which would up his salary from $3.9 million this season to an average of $10 million per season with $15 million-$17 million guaranteed, according to the newspaper.

The Giants are stacked when it comes to rushers, and the vocal Umenyiora has expressed his disappointment with the depth chart and contract situations all April. He said two weeks ago that he didn’t enjoy being a backup, and hinted last week that the team should trade him during the draft.

Umenyiora played in just nine games after offseason knee surgery, yet still registered nine sacks in seven games started.
