A sex predator raped a helpless woman on a tony West Village street after telling her he was a “neighborhood watchman’’ and promising to “get her home safe,’’ authorities told The Post.
The 30-year-old victim had lost her wallet and appeared disoriented after a night out drinking with friends when she was accosted by Ivan Ramos, 22, of Brooklyn sometime after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, law enforcement sources said.
Since she still had her debit card on her, that “help†allegedly included Ramos trying to use it to get cash from a nearby ATM. When that failed because she gave him the wrong code, the sources said, Ramos pulled her by the arm into the basement entrance of a tailor’s shop where he allegedly raped her and forced her to perform oral sex.
Ramos warned her: “Shut up or I’m going to kill you,†the sources said.
“He shoved her face in the door,’’ said the tailor. Han Moon, who watched the ugly scene on video from his surveillance camera. “He was trying to pull up her skirt up and hold her down. She was trying to get away and he was forcing her to stay still.â€
When the woman was able to scream, Ramos started walking away, according to the sources.
A brave witness who heard her cry for help called police, then followed Ramos on foot, and pointed him out to cops when they caught up.
Ramos allegedly tried to flee and still had the woman’s debit card on him when he was being cuffed.
He’s being held on $300,000 bond, charged with rape and other sex acts.
Jail is nothing new for Ramos, who since 2006 has been booked more than 20 times for charges that include robbery, assault, theft, burglary, false impersonation, weapons offense and grand larceny.
