One of the best things about MySpace (and its best hope to survive) is that it became a musicians’ site where you could learn about any act, from stars to strugglers, and listen to their music right there.
Facebook has just taken a small step in this direction by letting musicians add a “Listen” button to the top of their Timeline pages, right next to the “Like” button. If you have any music services connected to Facebook, such as Spotify, they will automatically open and play the site’s playlist.
It’s not the same as the detailed track lists on MySpace, though, as that provides a lot more information and didn’t require launching a separate app. But Facebook’s new option could well get more sophisticated in the future.
It’s been a busy week for music on websites. Last week, Spotify added the ability to embed a playlist in a website, Facebook page or blog post.
