Skier Lindsey Vonn got some unwelcome media attention this weekend, and it had nothing to do with the fact she spent more time with Tim Tebow.
The Detroit News website reported Sunday that Vonn is facing an IRS bill of more than $1.7 million because of what the agency says are delinquent taxes. According to the report, the IRS filed a tax lien of $1,705,437 against Vonn and her estranged husband, Thomas, on April 2 with the Elko County recorder in Nevada.
Vonn will pay up, she told the newspaper.
“It is no secret that my last year off the mountain has been filled with many personal challenges,†Vonn wrote to the newspaper in an email. “This matter was only recently brought to my attention, and I took immediate and deliberate steps to remedy the situation. I have made arrangements to pay in full the balance due.â€
Vonn, 27, announced in November that she and Thomas had started divorce proceedings. The gossip sites quickly paired Vonn and Tebow, then the Denver Broncos’ quarterback, though both parties described their relationship as a friendship.
Tebow has since been traded to the New York Jets. Vonn attended his charity golf tournament Saturday in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Vonn finished No. 1 overall on the World Cup circuit for Alpine skiing, which completed its season last month, and also topped the downhill and giant-slalom rankings. It was her fourth overall title.
She earned $608,000 in competition last season, the News reported. A crossover star with wide appeal, Vonn also has endorsement deals with Rolex, Procter and Gamble, Red Bull and Under Armour.
