Tim Tebow connected with Demaryius Thomas on one of the Denver Broncos’ most memorable touchdowns in franchise history.
But the third-year wide receiver wasn’t upset to see Tebow shipped out of Denver to make room forPeyton Manning. Thomas said Thursday in an interview with the 2 Live Stews on 790 The Zone in Atlanta that he prefers playing with a prototypical passing quarterback such as Manning.
“It’s a business decision,” Thomas said, via SportsRadioInterviews.com. “I ain’t going to say I was sad because the only thing they remember is that pass. You gotta go back and look at the rest of the games. I wasn’t getting no balls and you had to make some of these plays where some players were open and he is not making the throws, but I don’t want to talk bad about Tim. But, hey, I am happy we got Peyton.”
Thomas, who caught the winning 80-yard touchdown in the Broncos’ wild-card win over thePittsburgh Steelers, finished with 32 catches for 551 yards and four touchdowns in 11 regular-season games last season, but had two catches or less in five of those games. The Broncos struggled in many stretches of the 2011-12 season with Tebow leading the offense.
“You would have people calling him out saying, ‘Tim, you gotta make that throw. You gotta read the defenses better,’ ” Thomas said. “Players on offense trying to get him better.”
Thomas also said the considerable coverage Tebow received in the media rubbed some players — including himself — the wrong way.
“Everything on ESPN was all about Tim,” Thomas said. “That bothered some players, too, because they would say, ‘Tim Tebow Time.’ I felt like it was a team thing. If it wasn’t for the defense most of the time, there wouldn’t be no supposed ‘Tim Tebow Time.’ ”
