Since Bubba Watson began swinging a pink Ping G20 driver at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in January, Ping has donated $10,000, plus $300 for every 300-plus-yard drive Watson has struck using the club, to the “Bubba & Friends Drive to a Million” initiative. That brings the company’s total donation to $61,600. Watson and Ping hope to raise $1 million and give it to Phoenix-area charities chosen by the company with Watson’s support.
On Tuesday morning, Ping announced that it will sell 5,000 limited-edition all-pink G20 drivers for $430 in local pro shops starting on June 1. Five percent of the proceeds from the sale of the drivers will go to “Bubba Long in Pink. Driven by Ping,” which is the company’s portion of “Bubba & Friends Drive to a Million.”
“Bubba is already approaching the target of 300 drives of 300 yards or longer, and we wanted a way to provide ongoing support for his generous cause,” said John A. Solheim, Ping Golf’s chairman and CEO, in a media release. “Even prior to his win at the Masters, golfers were requesting pink G20s. Through word of mouth, social media, and phone calls, the interest was extremely high. We want to satisfy that demand while bringing even more visibility to Bubba’s goal of raising $1 million.”
In GOLF Magazine’s March issue, the G20 was reviewed alongside several other game-improvement drivers. Testers said it was, “One of the top-rated models. A worthy descendant to a long line of great drivers.” You can read the complete review here.
The pink G20 drivers will be available in right-handed 9.5°, 10.5°, and 12° models and 10.5° for left-handers. Each will come with a pink headcover and a pink Ping TFC 169D shaft labeled, “Bubba Long in Pink. Driven by Ping.” A ladies 12° model will also be available.
