Indiana Pacers legend Reggie Miller is officially a Hall of Famer as the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced the Class of 2012 on Monday.  Miller fittingly joins former Pacers’ ABA legend Mel Daniels to link two spectacular generations of the Indiana Pacers.
CBS announcer Jim Nantz announced Reggie’s name to make it official, along with Lidia Alexeeva, Don Barksdale, Mel Daniels, Phil Knight, Chet Walker, Katrina McClain, All-American Redheads, Don Nelson, Hank Nichols, Ralph Sampson and Jamaal Wilkes.
Miller played through the Michael Jordan era as a five-time All-Star, averaging 18.2 points for his career and finishing as the Pacers’ all-time leader in 13 categories. But people miss the point if they harp on Reggie’s numbers as the key part of his HoF credentials.
Reggie made the NBA live and thrive in Indiana, rising to the occasion so often that fans have to choose their favorite moment. But more than the big makes, Reg was willing to step up and take the big shot make or miss, in Indy or New York or wherever. He never had a small-market mind set and he infused the entire fan base in Indiana with that confidence and spirit. No excuses and no backing down. His impact on the basketball culture in Indiana is what makes Reggie Miller a Hall of Famer.
