Despite the fact the NBA team currently playing in the building is moving out at the end of the season, the Prudential Center will host the NBA draft for the second straight year this summer, Newark mayor Cory Booker announced today.
Booker announced the news on Twitter, tweeting: “Thrilled 2 announce #Newark will host the #NBAdraft + Fanfest for 2nd year in a row @PruCenter June 28th!”
Prudential Center hosted the 2011 draft because Madison Square Garden was undergoing renovations last summer. Since the Garden will be undergoing the second phase of its renovations this summer, the NBA decided to return to Newark, despite the fact that the Nets, who currently play at Prudential Center, are moving out of New Jersey and into Brooklyn next fall.
