When free agency begins Tuesday, NFL teams will have to be under the newest version of the salary cap, and only two days beforehand, the NFL finally has released the official numbers.
As Fox Sport’s Jay Glazer originally reported, that number is $120.6 million, only a slight increase from the 2011 cap of $120.375 million.
CBSSports.com’s Pat Kirwan writes that heading into the weekend, only four teams were still over that cap (the Cardinals, Lions, Panthers and Texans) while the Raiders and Steelers, both of which have dropped expensive players in recent weeks, have gotten underneath it.
According to NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora, here are the official franchise tag numbers for 2012.
Quarterbacks = $14.436 million
Running backs = $7.742 million
Wide receivers = $9.515 million
Tight ends = $5.446 million
Offensive linemen = $9.383 million
Defensive ends = $10.605 million
Defensive tackles = $7.96 million
Linebackers = $8.856 million
Cornerbacks = $10.281 million
Safeties = $6.212 million
Kickers/punters = $2.654 million
