Remember those awful pics of Rihanna’s bruised face after the “incident” three years ago? Well apparently no one was ever supposed to see them. Now, the two Los Angeles police officers suspected of leaking the pictures have been identified. More details below…
The ‘Umbrella’ singer called police in 2009 after she was physically assaulted by Chris Brown in a vehicle the night before the Grammys.
Rihanna suffered several contusions to her face, including major wounds to her forehead and lips. Brown was sentenced for the assault in August 2009.
Photos of the musician’s injuries were sold to TMZ after a police report was filed. Following a 30 month-long investigation by the force’s Internal Affairs Group (IAG), LAPD officers Rebecca Reyes and Blanca Lopez have been named as the suspects behind the breach, reports The Smoking Gun.
Reyes was assigned to the case on the night of the incident, while Lopez possibly became involved because she and Reyes were roommates at the time of the assault.
LAPD spokesperson Officer Cleon Joseph said that the ongoing case is a “confidential matter” and declined to comment further.
Reyes’s lawyer Ira Salzman said that his client had no involvement in the leak or sale of the photos and added that the IAG’s findings contained “no criminal allegations”.
It is now up to LAPD chief Charlie Beck to decide whether to take any action against the suspects.
Reyez and Lopez could face suspension and possible termination from the force. The two women are thought to have been on paid administration leave for over 30 months.
