Who needs Jeremy Lin and Linsanity when you can have Justin Bieber in your basketball game. While Lin is still rumored to be a candidate for the cover of 2K Sports NBA 2K13 or EA Sports NBA Live 13, 2K Sports has a secret weapon in the next round of basketball battle – Justin Bieber.

2K Sports was in Los Angeles on February 21st with Justin Bieber, manager Scooter Braun, and the rest of his crew (Alfredo Flores, Kenny Hamilton and Ryan Good). The occasion was to perform motion capture for its bestselling NBA 2K franchise. You can see some of the crew in mo-cap suits in this posting.

Bieber (@justinbieber)‏ tweeted about the event on February 21st, “shoutout to @Ronnie2K – everyone follow him. good people.thanks for the good time. the eye will heal. ha”

In reply to Ronnie 2K 2K12, who is one of the members of the 2K Sports team.

Ronnie 2K 2K12 tweeted, “Good day with the fellas. They can ball @thatrygood @KennyHamilton @justinbieber @scooterbraun @alfredoflores. #wheelsup to The Bay”

Exactly how Bieber will be used by 2K remains a mystery. One source said the developer may be bringing back the celebrity street ball mode in NBA 2K13. That same source said Bieber will likely be used in 2K13 versus any DLC update for NBA 2K12. The signs in the mo-cap background say NBA 2K13 as well, which points to that game.

This also makes sense because 2K Sports faces hoops competition again for the first time in a few years this fall. EA Sports already fired the first salvo in the NBA sim basketball war in Orlando during NBA All-Star 2012 when they invited John Wall, Kyrie Irving and Ricky Rubio to check out NBA Live 13, which is in development at EA Tiburon. These two games will go head-to-head this fall with the start of the next NBA season.
