The opening bell for the heavyweight title bout between Vitali Klitschko and Dereck Chisora will not sound until Saturday evening in Munich but the first blow has been landed — during the weigh in.
Shortly after the 40-year-old Klitschko had been weighed, the 28-year-old challenger returned to the stage, wearing a bandana covering his face. Facing the much larger Klitschko, Chisora certainly didn’t show any fear. Nor did he show much respect for the WBC heavyweight champ, leaning in toward Klitschko and then slapping the Ukranian fighter hard across the face with his right hand.
Klitschko calmly handled incident, not taking a swing at his opponent in retaliation.
“I am going to hit back on Saturday,” Klitschko told The Associated Press after the slap. “He will get his beating.”
The brash Brit has previously stated that the could “smell fear” from Klitschko’s camp and has predicted that he would topple his foe in the eighth round.
