Throughout South America and even reaching as far north as Mexico, a mysterious kidney disease is wiping out manual laborers at a rapid pace. 24,000 people have succumb to the disease since 2000 and the causes are unknown. While the true cause is a mystery, investigators believe there is a correlation between long strenuous work days and little hydration. Another school of thought is that chemicals used in food production, however there are construction workers and other hard labor workers that have succumb to the illness. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
